Convenient one a day dosage
Supplementary folic acid is recommended prior to and throughout pregnancy
Adults - Take one tablet daily with main meal, or as professionally prescribed.
Children (under 12 years) - Only as professionally prescribed.
Blackmores Folate provides a daily dose of 500mcg of folic acid which if taken daily for one month before conception and during pregnancy, may reduce the risk of women having a child with birth defects of the brain and/or spinal cord, such as spina bifida or anencephaly. Folic acid can also assist in maintaining normal blood. Recommended prior and throughout pregnancy.
Foetal formation increases the mother's need for folic acid and deficiency is common during pregnancy. Supplementation of folic acid is recommended for at least one month prior to conception and for the duration of the pregnancy, and may reduce the incidence of neural tube defects in the unborn child.
Deficiency of folic acid is common in the general population, resulting from prolonged stress, chronic alcoholism, viral infection and liver disease. When folic acid is lacking, red blood cells become enlarged and oxygen carrying capacity is reduced, resulting in symptoms of breathlessness, headache, pallor, muscle fatigue and exhaustion. Additionally, deficiency of folic acid (along with vitamin B6), is associated with elevated plasma levels of homocysteine.

Do not exceed the stated dose of folic acid. If you have had a baby with a neural tube defect you should seek specific medical advice before using this product.

Medicine interactions:
Co-trimoxazole, sulphasalazine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone and methotrexate may decrease the efficacy of folic acid supplements
